Curriculum

Prof. Gentileschi holds the position of Director of the Department of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at the San Carlo di Nancy Hospital and is the Co-Head of the respective department at the San Pier Damiano Hospital. He also works for the General Surgery Operating Unit at the Tiberia Hospital. For over twenty years he has been dealing with the mini-invasive and laparoscopic surgery with particular interest in the surgery of great obesity and metabolic surgery. He has treated over 3000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries. At the San Carlo di Nancy hospital he directs a multidisciplinary team specialized in the treatment of severe obesity, where about 900 cases of bariatric surgery are performed per year, with the application of all modern operating methods, such as sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass.

Education

In 1991 he graduated cum Laude in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, with the thesis on the ligation of the main biliary tract in the rat. In 1996 he became a Specialist in Digestive System Surgery and Digestive Surgical Endoscopy, obtaining a Diploma from the School of Specialization in Digestive System Surgery and Digestive Surgical Endoscopy of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. During the years of the specialization he carried out clinical and research activities at the Columbus Integrated Complex in Rome, the San Pietro Hospital in Rome and at UCLA in Los Angeles, USA for an experimental, 6 months lasting study of the applications of laparoscopic surgery in the pathology of the digestive system. He has performed numerous surgeries as the first operator in the digestive, endocrine and oncological fields. In 1993 he obtained a scholarship from the C.N.R. (National Research Council) for a 6-month stay at the Department of Colo-Rectal Surgery of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA for the study of the applications of laparoscopic surgery in large bowel neoplasms. Subsequently, in the years 2000-2001, he obtained the Research Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York where he carried out intense research and teaching activities.

Research

Prof. Gentileschi is a founding member of the LAP Group Rome, Roman Laparoscopic Group, a scientific association made up of representatives of all Roman hospitals specialized in minimally invasive surgery. He is a member of the Board of Directors of SICOB (Italian Society of Obesity Surgery and Metabolic Diseases). He also holds the role of Confirmed Associate Professor, as well as Director of the 2nd level Master in Pathological Obesity Surgery at the Tor Vergata University of Rome. Since 2002, he has performed more than 1000 high surgeries and advanced laparoscopic surgeries in the oncology, gastrointestinal, endocrine and bariatric fields, both in election and emergency. He is a Co-investigator in the European Research Project "The role of intestinal microflora in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease". He was also a lecturer at various professional refresher courses in Europe and the United States.

He is the author of over 100 scientific publications in national and international journals and specific volumes.
