Curriculum

Dr Borghesi is Head of the Neurosurgery Operating Unit at the Maria Cecilia Hospital, where approximately 1000 neurosurgical procedures are performed every year, many of which are supported by innovative technologies. Dr. Borghesi specializes in vertebral surgery (cervical, dorsal and lumbar arthrodesis) performed posteriorly and anteriorly, according to the most recent methods. During his career, he has performed around 4.500 surgeries, most of which of a very high cranial and vertebral complexity. He is part of the multidisciplinary team of Maria Cecilia Hospital which performs interventions with innovative video-micro-surgical techniques with a digital microscope with a 4K 3D orbital camera with an exoscopic approach for the removal of extensive brain tumors. He has also managed more than 400 cases of minimally invasive surgery of trigeminal neuralgia, through the use of the exoscope, and of facial spasms and tumors of the posterior cranial fossa such as meningiomas and neurinomas.

Education

In 1993 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ferrara, discussing the thesis on "Cervical myelopathy due to herniated disc". He specializes, then, in Neurosurgery in 2000 at the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Verona.

Research

Since the beginning of his professional career, he has attended numerous courses and hospitals around the world, acquiring a multilateral experience that he still uses today. He attended the Spinal Unit of the Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, participating as 2nd operator at nearly 60 interventions and the École de Chirurgie in Paris dedicating itself to the study of surgical approaches to the skull base and rachis. He participated at the practical-theoretical course "Mircosurgical approaches to the Brain, Ventricles and Skull Base" at the Brain Institute of the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Florida in Gainesville (USA). He attended the Microsurgical Laboratory of the University of Arkansas in Little Rock (USA) discussing the thesis on the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis. Dr Borghesi regularly collaborates with the leading Italian spine surgeons, such as Prof. Fabio Calbucci and Prof. Roberto Bassani. He participates in several editions of National Congresses of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery and other seminars in Italy and abroad.

Publications

He is the author of numerous scientific publications in national and international journals and volumes. In 1997 he was consultant of the "Medical Review" Journal.
