Diseases of the locomotor system, whether congenital, degenerative or traumatic, are often severely disabling conditions; as a matter of fact, they have a direct effect on a person’s degree of autonomy and self-sufficiency and, as a result, quality of life.
For many years now the GVM Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department has dealt with the treatment and recovery of traumatism of the musculoskeletal system, The main pathologies treated are degenerative diseases of the main joints (hip, knees and shoulder) that have undergone replacement surgery and traumatically-induced joint diseases typical of Sports Medicine such as knee meniscal, ligament and cartilage disorders, shoulder tendon and ligament injuries, and femoroacetabular impingement syndromes, ankle cartilage and ligament damage.
A total of 17,136 orthopaedic cases were treated by GVM in 2014, including 3,430 prosthesis operations and 13,706 different cases.
Coordinator of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department, Prof. Raul Zini, prominent surgeon, professor in the Specialisation Course at the Universities of Milan and Siena since 2003 and former President of the Italian Society of Arthroscopy.
